The phone scores 273741 in Aututu. The Snapdragon 845 prototype device with 6GB RAM we tested scored 267020 in the same test. Xiaomi did an additional optimization and the fact that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S comes with 8GB RAM helps too. The Antutu number was shared by Donovan Sung @donovansung, a global spokesperson for Xiaomi, so it better be right.
It is not all about performance. Xiaomi has one of the best screen to body ratio in the whole mobile phone industry and we expect an even smaller bezel compared to a Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. The phone should come with a below screen fingerprint reader and many are excited about this one. Face unlocking works just fine too.
The latest and greatest from the house of Xiaomi packs 5.99-inch screen with 2160X1080 resolution, a 2:1 aspect ratio, 8GB RAM, 256GB onboard storage, and the above-mentioned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. The phone is likely to launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, of course covered by MIUI 9 user interface.
There is a 256 GB storage option, but we would expect to see a 128 GB version too. Xiaomi is packing in AI help for scene recognition. There will be additional AI implementation to help the camera determine the important stuff in a scene.
Xiaomi uses the Sony IMX363 sensor that should enable some great photos but it will use the Snapdragon 845 and its integrated components. To shed some light on how the AI is implemented in the latest Snapdragon, the company plans to use Hexagon DSP 685 to run INT 8 networks, Adreno 630 GPU to runFP32 and FP16 and Kryo 385 Gold / Silver FP32 and INT8 8bit networks. Convolutional networks sound like a lot of calculation and the GPU probably has the best chances of getting the fastest score.
This might be the next benchmark, that is to say how fast will your camera recognize a cat. All Snapdragon 845 phones can run AI networks for faster keyword detection, picture recognition and a few other examples and this might be the next differentiator between phones.
