The board will discuss the next step
Valentine’s Day was quite hot as both Qualcomm and Broadcom senior management discussed the Broadcom acquisition proposal.
Triples the speed from last demo
Snapdragon X24 is a huge step forward getting the connection on your phone up to 2 Gbps, but 5G will be faster. Qualcomm has just announced that an X50 modem can get you to 4.51 Gbps speeds and probably faster by the launch day.
316.58 Mbps upload, double from 2017
Back in October Fudzilla asked Cristiano Amon, now President and Alex Katouzian VP and general manager of the mobile business at Qualcomm about the future of Gigabit LTE modems and we got a clear indication that things will be faster using the 1.2 GHz Snapdragon X20. The company has just announced that the Snapdragon X24 is the first 7nm chip and not only that, it supports 2Gbps speeds.
2+6 cores mainstream
Qualcomm is gaining traction with its 600 series chipsets and it is about to announce a new one. The Snapdragon 670 comes with dual high-end CPUs and six energy efficient ones, all in 10nm.
Ready in 2019, confirmed by Cristiano Amon
One thing we came away with from yesterday’s big Qualcomm announcement that 20 companies are committed to coming to market in 2019 with Qualcomm X50 NR based devices. Cristiano Amon, the President of Qualcomm just confirmed that Samsung is also on board with the X50.
Qualcomm’s three mm wave antenna
Last year in October we saw Cristiano Amon, a EVP of Qualcomm at that time, holding a 5G prototype in his hand. This time, we had a chance to play with a mock up of an actual 5G NR, a phone form factor prototype in Beijing, China.
Radeon Vega Intel and Gore space cooling
It is not every day that you have a chance to chat with the general manager of Alienware and the chief man in charge for the XPS units. Frank Azor, the GM of Alienware and XPS, as well as Donnie Oliphant, Sr. Director and General Manager XPS and Dell Gaming helped us understand the choices behind one of the highly anticipated XPS 15 2in1 2018 notebooks.
We shouldn't be surprised, but GPU sales have skyrocketed over the last few quarters. Our colleagues from the press have criticized AMD for Radeon Vega, but AMD sold every single one. Once the market sucked all Radeons, it went for Geforce GTX 1060, 1070, 1080 so pretty much anything that can mine well.
5G multi year marriage
Not only has Qualcomm just signed a cross license agreement with Samsung that resulted in the halt of Samsung’s legal battle against the company, the two giants have just announced a multi-year strategic relationship agreement. Both Samsung and Qualcomm have problems with Apple and a Broadcom hostile takeover.
Enemy of my enemy
Samsung is about to launch the Galaxy S9 and the US and Chinese version will use the Snapdragon 845. Samsung has been fighting Qualcomm with its own Exynos but the global patent cross-license agreement as well as a multi-year strategic relationship agreement sends a strong no-buy message to Broadcom.
