G.Skill DDR4 breaks world record at 5,500MHz

On MSI X299 motherboard and Intel Core i7-7740X CPU

G.Skill has been recently pushing the memory envelope hard, and with the latest DDR4 memory it has moved the frequency mark to a whole new level but today it told us that its DDR4 memory managed to break a record at 5,500MHz.

Last year, G.Skill and its resident overclocker, Toppc, were also to blame for breaking the 5,000MHz barrier at the Computex show and this year, G.Skill employed the same overclocker which managed to push it even further, reaching 5,500MHz on MSI's X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC motherboard and Intel's Core i7-7740X Kaby Lake-X CPU.

The memory kit in question is G.Skill's Trident Z DDR4 based on Samsung 8Gb ICs. Of course, the entire system was soaking in LN2 and the 8GB memory kit was running at CL14-14-14 latency.

According to Tequila Huang, Corporate Vice President at G.Skill, the 5.5GHz frequency has been the target ever since it hit 5.0GHz last year and with amazing overclocking potential on the recently released hardware, he believes that more overclocking records will be broken very soon.
